Updated 2026-10-29 · For travellers from Oman — flying from Muscat (MCT) and Salalah (SLL)
The Maldives is one of the most searched holiday destinations from Oman, and honestly, who can blame anyone. Turquoise lagoons, overwater villas, house-reef diving, and a no-fuss visa-on-arrival policy make it a natural pick for an honeymoon, a family escape, or a serious dive trip. Travelzeego's Maldives packages are built for travellers departing from Oman, Omani nationals, GCC citizens, and the large Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi expat community calling Muscat or Salalah home. We handle the resort booking, your speedboat or seaplane transfer, and a visa letter if you need one. You just need to get yourself on that connecting flight.
There are no nonstop flights from either Muscat (MCT) or Salalah (SLL) to Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. From Muscat, your best options are Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi, flydubai and Emirates via Dubai, and Qatar Airways via Doha, all running daily or near-daily. Total journey time from Muscat works out to roughly 6.5 to 9 hours depending on your connection. From Salalah, Air Arabia via Sharjah, flydubai via Dubai, and Qatar Airways via Doha cover the route, with total travel times of around 8.5 to 11 hours. Muscat gives you the widest choice of airlines and generally tighter connections, so if you are based in Salalah, it can sometimes be worth the short domestic hop to Muscat first. Always check current schedules when you book, airline routes do shift.
The Maldives dry season runs November to April: calm seas, low humidity, and gorgeous underwater visibility. It also lines up perfectly with Oman's main holidays, National Day on 18 November and the surrounding long weekend, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (dates shift annually with the Islamic calendar). The school winter break in late December and January. These periods fill fast, so book well ahead. July and August, Oman's school summer break, fall during the southwest monsoon season in the Maldives. Rain comes in short bursts rather than full days, resorts often discount, and it is perfectly enjoyable. March and April, just before the monsoon arrives, offer a quieter shoulder-season option with good weather and fewer crowds.
The Maldives has one of the most straightforward visa policies going: a free tourist visa on arrival at Velana International Airport (MLE), valid for up to 30 days, granted to every nationality. Omani citizens, GCC passport holders, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and all other passport holders travelling from Oman qualify equally. No advance application, no fee. What you do need before you fly is the IMUGA Traveller Declaration, a free online form at imuga.immigration.gov.mv, completed within 96 hours of your arrival. You will also need your passport valid for at least one month beyond your arrival date, a confirmed return ticket, and your resort booking voucher. Visa rules can change, so check the Maldives Immigration website before you travel.

The Maldives' official currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but resorts and tourist businesses price almost everything in US dollars, so your OMR card works everywhere at the resort. Omani bank debit and credit cards (Visa or Mastercard) are accepted for resort bill settlements and at the airport in Malé. For cash, Muscat has plenty of exchange houses, Al Ansari, Al Fardan and others, where you can convert OMR to USD before you fly; USD is far more practical for tourists than MVR. The resort minibar, spa treatments beyond your package, and dive equipment hire add up quickly, so set yourself a daily allowance. Tipping dive guides and boat crew in USD, roughly USD 5–10 per trip, is customary and genuinely appreciated.
